Against a back drop of almost two billion people around the
world relying on sources of drinking water contaminated with faeces, the United
Nations has called on countries to radically to increase investment in water
and sanitation infrastructure not only to protect their population from deadly
diseases but also to ensure they are able to achieve Sustainable Development
Goals(SDGs).
Contaminated drinking water now days is estimated to cause
more than five hundred thousand diarrhea death each year and is a major factor
in neglected tropical diseases including intestinal worms and trachoma said
Maria Neira, a director of department of Public Health ,Environmental and
Social Determinants of Health at the UN World Health Organization.
